Functional Genomics Testing and Coaching

Generic advice was never written for you. Your plan can be.

Functional genomics testing and coaching with Matt DeWild, RN. A simple cheek swab shows genetic tendencies linked to how your body handles food, sleep, stress and exercise, and coaching turns that information into choices you can live with.

Does this sound familiar?

You have followed the advice. It did not seem to fit you.

You may have tried the diet that worked for a friend, the sleep routine everyone recommends, the workout that promised results. And you may have noticed that what works for other people does not always work the same way for you.

  • Eating plans that left you hungry, tired or no further ahead
  • Caffeine, alcohol or late meals that seem to affect you more than others
  • Exercise that drains you instead of energizing you
  • Conflicting advice, and no way to tell what applies to you
  • A wish to make health decisions with more confidence

If that sounds familiar, there may be nothing wrong with your effort. People differ in how their bodies respond, and some of those differences may be linked to their genes.

A different way to see it

Why general advice so often misses the mark

Most health advice is built on averages. It describes what tends to help most people, most of the time. But nobody is an average. Small variations in genes are linked to differences in how people process certain nutrients, respond to caffeine, handle stress and recover from exercise.

Your genes are not your destiny. Sleep, stress, food, movement and your nervous system all shape how those tendencies show up. Functional genomics gives you and Matt a starting point that is personal to you, so the changes you choose are more likely to fit.

How genomics coaching works

Regulate. Integrate. Optimize.

Coaching sessions are 45 minutes, at our Bettendorf clinic or online. Your results are put to work through the three principles behind everything at Integrated Functional Health.

  1. 01

    Regulate

Use what your results suggest about stress and sleep to settle your nervous system first, so your body feels safe enough to rest and change.

  2. 02

    Integrate

Help the different parts of your brain work together for better function across mind and body, so what you learn about your biology turns into choices you actually make.

  3. 03

    Optimize

Shape food, movement, sleep and recovery habits around your genetic tendencies, and adjust as you see what helps you most.

What becomes possible

What this work is designed to build

  • A personal starting point

A clearer sense of which advice fits you, and which you can let go.

  • More confident choices

Health decisions made with more information and less guesswork.

  • Food that fits you

An eating pattern shaped around how your body tends to respond.

  • Rest and recovery

Sleep and recovery habits matched to your tendencies.

  • Steadier energy

Days with fewer crashes and more to give.

  • A plan for the long run

A personal plan designed to support quality longevity.

Who it is for

Is functional genomics right for you?

A good fit

  • You want a plan based on your own biology, not general advice
  • You are curious about your genetic tendencies and ready to act on what you learn
  • You would like coaching to turn results into daily habits
  • You are comfortable collecting a cheek swab at home

Probably not the right fit if

  • You need a diagnosis, or testing for a specific disease or medical condition. Your doctor can talk with you about medical genetic testing.
  • You are looking for results without changing any daily habits

Genetic information is one piece of the picture. It works alongside your doctor’s care, not instead of it.

Matt DeWild, RN

Matt is a registered nurse, massage therapist, internationally board certified hypnotist and hypnosis instructor, with over 30 years of experience in healthcare, from emergency rooms, trauma centers and flight nursing to mental health and addictions. His training spans traditional Western medicine and natural, holistic approaches, and he has studied with teachers from around the world. He has taught many classes and programs to people in many different professions, and he is a featured speaker at conferences and for groups and organizations on a variety of brain based topics. He founded the practice in 2010 and is an owner of Integrated Functional Health, which he runs with his wife, Molly Hinke-DeWild, LISW, in Bettendorf, Iowa.

In genomics coaching, Matt explains what your results suggest in plain language and connects them with your stress, sleep, nutrition and nervous system, so you leave with a plan rather than a report. As your coach, he does not diagnose or prescribe, and he is glad to work alongside the doctors you already see. What your genes suggest is most useful over time, which is why genomics is one part of his longevity work.

Questions

Questions about functional genomics

What is functional genomics?

Functional genomics looks at variations in your genes that are linked to how your body tends to handle things like food, sleep, stress and exercise. In coaching, that information helps shape practical choices that fit your biology. It is information to guide your plan, not a diagnosis.

How does the test work?

The test uses a simple cheek swab that you collect at home and send to the lab. There are no needles and no lab visit. Results typically take a few weeks, and then you review them with Matt.

Is this a medical or diagnostic test?

No. The test and coaching are for education and wellness planning. They do not diagnose disease or tell you whether you will develop a condition. If a result raises a medical question, Matt will encourage you to talk with your doctor.

Do I need to live near Bettendorf?

No. The kit comes to you, and coaching is available at our Bettendorf clinic or online through a secure telehealth platform, anywhere in the United States.

What happens on the free consult?

It is a 30 minute conversation with Matt, at the clinic or by telehealth. You talk about your goals and your health, and together you decide whether genetic testing and coaching are a good fit. There is no cost and no obligation.

How much does it cost?

Coaching sessions with Matt are $150 each, and the free consult costs nothing. The cost of the genetic test itself is explained on your free consult, before you decide anything. Coaching is paid directly, and our insurance arrangements cover therapy only.
