Integrated Functional Neurology

Your body moves the way your nervous system lets it.

Focused 30 minute sessions with Matt DeWild, RN, for pain, movement and mind body integration. The work starts with your nervous system, because that is where your body decides how safe it is to move, rest and let go of tension.

Does this sound familiar?

Your body is still guarding, long after the reason has passed.

You may have rested, stretched, strengthened and waited. Some of it helped for a while. And you may have noticed the same tightness and discomfort finding their way back.

  • Pain or tension that keeps returning to the same places
  • Movements you quietly avoid because you expect them to hurt
  • Stiffness that eases, then comes back when life gets busy
  • Stress that seems to settle in your neck, back or jaw
  • A sense that your body and mind are not quite working together

That does not mean you are imagining it, or that nothing can change. Often it means your nervous system is still protecting you, and it has not yet had the chance to stand down.

Why Matt does this work

He has been where you are.

Matt’s path to this work started with a serious sports injury and a shoulder that would not heal, despite several surgeries. Facing yet another operation, he decided there had to be another way.

He studied many integrative approaches. No single one was the answer, but a combination finally brought relief, and it taught him what shapes every session today: pain, stress, the mind and the body are connected through the nervous system.

A different way to see it

Pain and movement are shaped by the nervous system

Every movement you make is organized by your brain and nervous system. When your system senses threat, from an old injury, long stress or pain itself, it tightens, guards and limits how you move. That protection is useful for a while. Over months or years it can become the way your body works.

It is difficult to make lasting change when your nervous system is in a threatened state.

Matt DeWild, RN

Integrated Functional Neurology works with that system directly. Sessions are designed to help your body feel safe enough to soften its guard, move more freely and reconnect how you feel with how you move.

Regulate. Integrate. Optimize.

How a session helps your body stop guarding

Each session is 30 minutes, at our Bettendorf clinic or online. The work follows the three principles behind everything at Integrated Functional Health.

  1. 01

    Regulate

Begin by settling the stress response, so your body has less reason to brace and guard.

  2. 02

    Integrate

Help the different parts of your brain and body work together, so movement, sensation and emotion feel more connected and easier to manage.

  3. 03

    Optimize

Build on what changes with simple practices for home, so the progress you feel in a session has a better chance to last.

What becomes possible

What moving without guarding can feel like

  • More ease

A body that spends less of the day braced.

  • Freer movement

Confidence to move in ways you have been avoiding.

  • Calmer responses

A nervous system that settles more quickly after stress.

  • Better rest

Sleep that is less interrupted by discomfort.

  • Mind and body together

A clearer sense of how what you feel and how you move connect.

  • Tools you keep

Simple practices to use between sessions and after them.
