Does this sound familiar?
Knowing what to eat may never have been the problem.
You may have counted, tracked, cut out and started over more times than you can remember. Many people lose weight on a plan, and then find the old patterns quietly returning.
- Eating that happens on autopilot, especially when stressed or tired
- Cravings that feel louder than your intentions
- Plans that work for a few weeks, then slip away
- Weight that returns after all the effort to lose it
- A tiring cycle of starting again on Monday
If that sounds familiar, it is not a lack of willpower or a personal failing. It is often a sign that change happened at the surface, while the patterns underneath stayed the same.
A different way to see it
Why willpower alone rarely lasts
Willpower lives in the conscious mind: logic, reasoning and effort. A widely recognized model describes the conscious mind as roughly 15% of what drives behavior. The other 85%, the subconscious, holds habits, beliefs and emotional patterns, and it is where eating on autopilot tends to come from.
Your nervous system matters too. When stress stays high, the body leans toward protection, and cravings, sleep and hunger signals can all shift with it. That is why this approach works with your brain and nervous system first, so the changes you make to food and movement have a better chance to last.
How weight loss coaching works
Regulate. Integrate. Optimize.
Sessions are 45 minutes, at our Bettendorf clinic or online. The work follows the three principles behind everything at Integrated Functional Health.
-
01
Regulate
Calm the stress response that so often drives eating, with practical tools for hard moments and support for better sleep.
-
02
Integrate
Help the different parts of your brain work together for better function across mind and body, so what you intend and what you do start to match.
-
03
Optimize
Build habits around protein, hydration, movement and mindful eating that fit your life and support your health for the long term.

Matt DeWild, RN
Matt is a registered nurse, massage therapist, internationally board certified hypnotist and hypnosis instructor, with over 30 years of experience in healthcare, from emergency rooms, trauma centers and flight nursing to mental health and addictions. His training spans traditional Western medicine and natural, holistic approaches, and he has studied with teachers from around the world. He has taught many classes and programs to people in many different professions, and he is a featured speaker at conferences and for groups and organizations on a variety of brain based topics. He founded the practice in 2010 and is an owner of Integrated Functional Health, which he runs with his wife, Molly Hinke-DeWild, LISW, in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Matt developed Integrated Functional Health’s brain based approach to weight loss. He brings together his clinical background and his focus on the nervous system and the patterns behind eating, and he is glad to coordinate with your doctors. As your coach, he does not diagnose, prescribe or recommend dosing. Carrying less weight changes how the next twenty years feel, so this is one part of his longevity work.

Questions
Questions about weight loss
What makes this approach different?
Most weight loss plans focus on what to eat and how much to move, and rely on willpower to follow through. This approach starts with the brain: the habits, beliefs and emotional patterns that drive eating. A widely recognized model describes the conscious mind, with its logic and willpower, as roughly 15% of what drives behavior, and the subconscious as the other 85%. The work is designed for that larger share.
Do I have to take GLP-1 medication?
No. Medical support is optional and never required. If you are interested, an independent licensed medical provider can evaluate whether GLP-1 medication or other support is appropriate for you. The coaching works with or without it.
I already take a GLP-1 medication. Can coaching help?
Coaching can work alongside medication you already take, focusing on the habits, eating patterns and nervous system that shape long term results. Keep your prescribing provider informed, and do not change your medication without talking with them.
Is this available online?
Yes. Coaching is available at our Bettendorf clinic or online through a secure telehealth platform, anywhere in the United States.
What happens on the free consult?
It is a 30 minute conversation with Matt, at the clinic or by telehealth. You talk about your history with weight, what you have tried and what you would like to change, and together you decide on the right next step. There is no cost and no obligation.
How much does it cost?
Coaching sessions with Matt are $150 each, and the free consult costs nothing. If you choose optional medical support, its costs come from independent licensed providers and are explained on your free consult, before you decide anything.
How much weight will I lose?
No one can honestly promise a number. Results depend on many factors and are not guaranteed. The work is designed to change the patterns behind eating, so the changes you make have a better chance to last.
